Objective:To learn the dangers of smoking.
Tobacco use is a major cause of illness and death.Being in the company of smokers is risky behavior.
Today, more and more people are becoming aware of the dangers of tobacco.
– At least 30 million Americans have quit smoking.
– An estimated 65% of doctors, 61% of dentists, and 55% of pharmacists who once smoked have now quit.
– In 1965, 40% of American adults smoked, while in 1990 that figure dropped to 29%.
– During the past 25 years almost half of the adults who once smoked have now given the use of tobacco.
We as a whole emphasize quitting smoking or never start to smoke but still over 50 million Americans who do smoke.
Every day in the US 3,000 teens start smoking
– Teenage females are smoking more than ever before.
– An estimated 15 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds use cigarettes.
– In national samples of high school seniors, 13 percent of males and 12 percent of females describe themselves as daily smokers.
– ? of high school seniors who smoke had theirfirst cigarette by sixth grade, ? by eighth grade.
– Over the last 20 years, the age at which teens start to smoke has continued to fall.
– According to the CDC, each year an estimated 1 billion packs of cigarettes are sold to people younger than 18-even though it is against the law in many states.
