The History of Cosmology

The History of Cosmology
In this chapter, you will learn about the history of Cosmology. What theories have been developed over the years. Who started the theories about the universe. What sorts of things are in our universe and many other things.
Cosmology is the study of the universe. Like any field of science, cosmology involves the formation of theories about the universe, which make specific predictions for the phenomena that can be tested with observations. Depending on the outcome of the observations, the theories will need to be abandoned, revised or made extended to go with the data. The scientists then connect the observation into a bigger picture which is the Big Bang Theory (we'll learn about this later in the next chapter)
The Ancient Greeks are a big part of history but how are they connected with cosmology? The Greeks were thefirst to build a cosmological model of how the sun, moon, stars, and planets. In the forth century b.c they developed the idea that the stars went around the earth every 24 hours and the moon and sun were in between the stars and the earth. The Greeks studied the universe over the centuries and developed another idea that the stars and planets moved in a circular path around the earth. A man named Ptolemy produced this structure and it was so accurate no one could match it up to Copernicus's time. Although Copernicus couldn't make a model as
(How a telescope works) accurate as Ptolemy could.
However, he did advance the theory farther though. Many astronomers did not believe Copernicus's theory about the earth orbiting the sun. However, a man by the name of Tycho Brahe, who was the smartest man of the sixteenth century, explored this theory and by the time, the telescope was invented in the 1700's, Galileo (who invented the telescope) examined the planets and found the theory true. Around this same time, Kepler who was Ty
