In 1927, the use, selling, and growing of marijuana became illegal.With the passing of these restrictions, there were several direct violations of the United States Constitution.The Constitution was put in place to guarantee that all Americans would be protected under it.Not being able to use, sell, and grow marijuana is not only a violation of the United States Constitution, it is also a violation of divine mandate, and most importantly our basic human freedoms to enjoy marijuana.
For example, thefirst amendment of the Constitution states,Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.There are several religions, who use marijuana for sacramental purposes.According to the constitution, these religions groups should be allowed to use marijuana, because it is their right to practice their religion and the government should not be able to infringe on their right to do so.
One specific religious group that uses marijuana, are the Rastafarians.This religious group, which was founded in Ethiopia uses marijuana for religious purposes such as meditation, and also for spiritual healing.The Rastas also believe marijuana is very useful for physical healing as well as physical well being.The Rastafarians use several verses from the Bible to show that they should the religious freedom to use marijuana.
For example, in the Bible it says (Genesis 3-18) "Thorns and thistles shall it sprout for you, and you shall eat the herb of the land."This verse shows according to Rastafarian belief that they should be allowed to use marijuana due to the fact that the Cannabis Sativa Plant (marijuana) is an herb.
