LINX (London Internet eXchange) has issued a warning that broadband prices will rise due to new government regulations that ISPs must log data about their customers’ surfing habits.
The European government is considering new legislation that will force all ISPs to collect and retain a wide range of data to estable the source, routing, destination, time, date and duration of communication between devices.
The cost of retrieving and retaining this data is large, especially for ISPs with browser-hungry users, and ISPs simply won’t stomach the cost of this legislation. And because details are scarce, the cost implications are not yet known. The sky is the limit.
