Cloning

The very controversial issue of cloning has been argued over for years.Cloning is a relatively new process to further life.Already scientist's over-seas have created a sheep named Dolly. It took 277 times till they got the sheep to come out with no abnormalities. Many people believe that cloning would be a great thing to have in society, but there is another side to this issue that many people believe in.Cloning is bad because of its lack of genetic diversity, it also goes against religious and moral standards.
The biggest problem with the use of cloning on a large scale is the decline of genetic diversity.Think about it, if everyone has the same genetic material what happens if we lose the ability to clone. We would have to resort to natural reproduction, causing us to inbreed which would cause many problems. Also if a population of organisms has the same genetic information, then one disease could wipe out the entire population. The decline of genetic diversity could lead to the cloning of the best existing animals, not allowing evolution to run its course. If cloning happens it would take away our diverse characteristic of uniqueness which separates us all.
Other arguments for cloning include the religious end of things.People question when we will draw the line for getting involved in natural events.Religious organizations consider nuclear transfer to cause men to be reproductively obsolete. This claim was deduced by gathering of the information that cloning requires any cell and a woman to develop in.They also claim that cloning does not respect the fact that humans have souls.Religious organizations also consider cloning unnatural, and say we are taking the work of God into our own hands. The bible states that there shall be only one creator, God.
There is a debate as to the moral rights of clones. Studies show that most people would not receive clones with such excitement as a child of a couple …

Similar to the pro-life activists in the abortion argument there is the conservative wing who claim the utilization of cloning would be unjust. Then there are the scientific and progressive left activists on the other wing who believe that society could make great strides in the medicine and other fields through the use of cloning. In the defense of the conservative wing there are some negative effects that could be avoided by banning the research and use of cloning. But it seems the possible positive effects would outweigh the negative. It is a simple risk-reward equation that must be resolved to figure out whether cloning should be used. Although we may have to do some unethical things on the way, unethical is not necessarily unlawful. Therefore all in all the legalization and further investigation of cloning would be beneficial to society.
The conservative side points out that the use of cloning will turn the world into a dull and boring place lacking in the diversity we have now. Kluger the author of an article in Time magazine quotes a Boston College bioethics professor as saying " 'It is in the diversity of our population that we find interest and enthusiasm'"(71). Then again Alex Kahn writes in "Clone Mammals…Clone Man?" "part of the individuality and dignity of a person probably lies in the uniqueness and unpredictability of his or her development. As a result the uncertainty of the great lottery of heredity constitutes the principal protection against biological predetermination imposed by third parties including parents" (324).
Basically, the opposing conservative side argues that cloning would take away the individuality and differences in personality in the population. But what they fail to reco…
