Censorship is defined as deleting parts of publications or correspondence or theatrical performances. Editing crucial emotions and statements subdues the overall statement established. Without an overall message, the work is then useless, wasted ink. This offence to freedom has continued throughout humanity, depriving the next generation of many great pieces of literature. The crime of censorship is sickening and ironically undermines the essential human right of liberty. Censorship is a useless convention utilized to please a supposedly prudent audience, while in truth it frustrates many people. Many types of censorship exist: books, music, lyrics, ideas, sexual content, and words that may be offensive. People censor in order to attempt protection for their loved ones. Censorship is an ineffective form of accomplishing anything, as the addressed issues still exist after the repression.
Literature is one of the most valued prizes of humankind. It allows people to experience a plethora of emotions. Experiencing the joys and pains of someone's experience is an ongoing theme in all literature. Where would today's society be had the ancient Grecians not printed their literature on the earliest form of paper? Reading was one of thefirst forms of entertainment, before televisions, radios and even plays; being able to read was a valued skill. In the present day, books are still considered important, but have become second to newer technological entertainment forms. Ironically, novels such as Fahrenheit 451 depict a life without books, where freedom of thought and speech and ideas are considered bad. People in North America do not realize how lucky they are, for the most part, for being able to share their ideas.
