Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder is a neurobiological problem in an individual that interferes with one's capacity to regulate activity level (called hyperactivity), inhibit behavior (impulsivity), and even attend to simple tasks (inattention) inappropriate ways. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed disorder of childhood.It effects 3-5 percent of school children, and occurs three times more often in boys than girls.ADHD in children causes them to have functional impairment across several settings including home, school, and their peers.They experience an inability to sit still and pay attention in class- and are punished in return. The main symptoms of ADHD are an inability to sustain attention and concentration, inappropriate levels of activity, impulsivity, and distractibility.If not treated, the effects of ADHD will affect an individual all thorough adulthood. About one child in every classroom in the United States needs treatment for this disorder.
